About Me

Okay, first off my name is David, I am currently 17 years old. I live in the suburbs of London, which if you don't know, is the capital city of England. I'm in sixth form (college), and studying Classics, Business Studies and ICT.

I am a Geek, so I love everything to do with computers, except when they go wrong. I'm usually spending most of my time either playing games or browsing the Internet, I've tried writing my own programs and I know snippits of C++, Java, Python, and BASIC. The problem is I've never had a proper use for making my own programs, other than the "I made this" feel. However, I do know HTML and CSS, so that's okay :). I also do the requisite geeky things, I drink Coffee and Tea, I play in a sort-of clan with some people I know, I've rebuilt and repaired my computer more times than I can count, and I made this website!

Apart from computers, I also like to draw quite a lot, usually over the notes I'm supposed to be taking. Some of my art is on the internet, but I prefer to keep it private. Gives me something to focus on, I suppose. I watch a bit of TV, things like Top Gear (cars), The IT Crowd (comedy), The Thick of It (more comedy) and most of those programs on that History channel. Unfortunately, most modern telly is a load of tosh, so it usually stays off. Music on the other hand, is my crack. I've always got some noise going, whether it's Radiohead, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Pink Floyd, Sigur Rós, Do Make Say Think, Mogwai, The Beatles, Zero 7, or some random podcast I've downloaded, it's always playing. Unusually, I barely touch my Last.FM account.

Computers

Since I love computers, I'll give them their own section. I originality started off with an Amiga OS 3.9, which was brilliant! It's where my love for computers comes from, and where I first learnt to program HTML. And then in 2000 my family decided to modernise and we ended up with Windows XP. Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad, the system worked well and I could start playing modern games, my biggest problem. The actual computer lasted for 8 years after going through 2 new hard-drives, 3 reinstalls of XP, a new PSU jury-rigged onto the side, and a new CD drive.

Around 2004/5, I got my computer. It wasn't state of the art, but it's been with me for the last 4 years. Of course it's failed a large amount of times. It's been through a new CD drive, 3 reinstalls of Windows, loads of Linux installs, a new graphics card, a new sound card, a new PSU and some more RAM, and still it chuggs away. Until the next breakage.

I currently dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows XP, Ubuntu for all my work and Windows for all my games, seems to work fairly well.
